Port Alberni - Approximately 55 excited young swimmers from Ladysmith, Comox, Qualicum and our own Port Alberni TSUNAMI Swim Club, participated this past Sunday at Echo Pool ’67. This was the 5th in a series of 8 Vancouver Island Regional Developmental Meets. This is proving to be an excellent program whereby young athletes can be challenged in a non-threatening yet competitive environment. Our local swimmers again did extremely well with all posting personal best times. Several of the TSUNAMI swimmers achieved SwimBC ‘A’ times and a few are approaching the ‘AA’ level. It is always exciting to see their hard earned steady progress.

TSUNAMI has 2 more VIR Meets in the near future. The next one is number 6 and will be held in Courtenay on Sunday, March 9th - - the next number 7 and last meet to be held in Port Alberni this competitive season will be Sunday, April 13th.

VANCOUVER February 22nd – 24th ‘08- Port Alberni’s own, (former TSUNAMI swimmer) Sara Galesloot, now swimming as a second year student out of the University of Lethbridge, who along with 4 other fellow students from Lethbridge, also competed this past week-end. Formerly known as the Canadian National University Championships, the Annual CIS Championships were held at UBC in Vancouver. In an extremely strong field, Sarah qualified for and swam in the 100 and 200 meter breaststroke consolation finals. She was 1st alternate for the 50 meter breaststroke consolation final. Sarah had a real break-through and is excited about qualifying for the Canadian Olympic Trials in the 100 meter breaststroke. Along with a couple of her University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Swim Team mates, Sarah will be attending the Olympic Trials in Montreal early April. . . Go Sarah, we are all proud of you!
